The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee weekend is only two weeks away and I’m sure that people up and down the country are busy planning a garden or street party to celebrate. All this excitement got me thinking… what about a party for teddy bears? Then, it hit me! Why not host a Teddy Bear’s Jubilee Picnic?
Firstly, you want to find a great place to host your picnic. A local park or beach would be fantastic, but your garden is also a great choice. Knowing the British weather, though, you may end up having to hold it in your living room if it rains!
Next, send out your invites! This is a teddy bear’s picnic after all, so you could maybe add a picture of a rather royal-looking teddy wearing a crown and holding a sceptre. You’ll also want to make sure that you remember to tell your guests to bring their favourite teddy bear with them! You could even have a dress code; ask everyone and their bears to wear a Union Jack or only red, white or blue coloured clothes.
When it comes to the party itself, try and get as many teddy-themed foods as possible. You could get a teddy bear-shaped cake and biscuits, use teddy bear moulds for jelly and even use teddy bear cookie cutters to cut sandwiches into teddy shapes!
To decorate, stick to red, white and blue! Shops and supermarkets have everything you need for a jubilee party, from bunting to tablecloths. If you’re having your picnic away from home, then take red, white and blue blankets for everyone to sit on, as well as plenty of Union Jack plates and cups!
For entertainment, have a crown-making competition! Buy loads of cardboard, glitter, jewels, tin foil and more and have each guest make a crown for their teddy bears. The winner could get a special treat and everyone gets to keep their crown as a souvenir of the day.
As well as the competition, you could also play royal and bear-themed variations of other party games. You could play ‘Pin the Crown on the Teddy Bear’, or have a game of Pass the Parcel and theme all of the gifts around the Jubilee. Union Jack teddy bear t-shirts would be a great idea!
The possibilities for this type of picnic or party are really quite endless, but I hope that my ideas have certainly given you some inspiration for a party of your own! In fact, if you do decide to host a teddy bear Jubilee picnic, let us know! We’d love to know your own ideas and see some pictures of the day itself. You can simply upload them to Facebook and tag us in them, or send them to us on Twitter by mentioning @thebearworks in your tweet.
Whatever your plans, I hope that you and your bears have a great Jubilee weekend!
